🏯 Time Travel to the Sengoku Period! Uwajima's Biggest Golden Week Event Recreating the entry of Hidemune-ko, the eldest son of Date Masamune, Uwajima Castle is opened as a "theme park." The "Grand Samurai Procession" is simply breathtaking!
On May 4th, a procession of citizen warriors in authentic armor parades through the castle town, accompanied by comedy shows, various hands-on experiences, and a wide array of gourmet food stalls.

🎆 Uwajima's Biggest Event where Sea, Light, and Sound Compete! One of Shikoku's Premier Summer Festivals Three days when Uwajima gets its hottest. Featuring the "Gaiya Carnival" by young people, offshore fireworks lighting up the harbor, and numerous "Ushioni Parades" marching through the streets!
The "Hashirikomi" (running in) on the evening of the final day is a powerful climax where young people carrying torches and portable shrines (mikoshi) surge into the Sukagawa River.

Uwatsuhiko Shrine Autumn Festival (Yatsushika Dance & Ushi-oni)
⛩️ A collaboration of the "Yatsushika Dance" passed down from the Date family and Nanyo's Ushi-oni! The autumn annual festival of Uwatsuhiko Shrine. The main highlight is the rare folk performing art "Yatsushika Dance," which originated in Sendai and can only be seen in a few places in Western Japan, including Uwajima.
Along with the sound of "Booyare" blown by children, the "Ushi-oni" also parades energetically through the city. The dedication of the Yatsushika Dance at Tensha-en Garden is also a must-see.

Yoshida Festival Parade
🏮 First in Chugoku-Shikoku! A large-scale procession designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property A special festival with over 360 years of tradition. A magnificent parade featuring "Omifune/Neriguruma" (festival boats/floats) and "Kanoko (Nanatsushika Odori)" (seven deer dance) continues, just like an Edo period picture scroll.
It's a day packed with highlights, starting with the sumo dedication at dawn (U-no-koku) and featuring the rampaging "Yoshida no Abare Ushi-oni" (Yoshida's Wild Bull Demon) purifying the town.

A New Year's tradition where giant bulls weighing nearly 1 ton clash in a 20-meter diameter ring. The bulls fight without a time limit, and the one that flees loses, a simple yet powerful rule. This is a rare folk culture selected by the Agency for Cultural Affairs as a National Intangible Folk Cultural Property, 'Bull-butting Customs of the Nanyo Region'.

Nanrakuen Plum Blossom Festival
In the plum garden of Nanrakuen, a Japanese garden boasting the largest scale in Shikoku, 160 plum trees of 15 varieties bloom. During the Plum Blossom Festival, free plum tea is served at the 'Umemi Chaya' (Plum Viewing Teahouse), and Zashiki-bina (traditional doll displays) are exhibited. The night illumination on specific weekends is also a must-see.
