Tradition & Autumn Festival
Uwatsuhiko Shrine Autumn Festival (Yatsushika Dance & Ushi-oni)
⛩️ A collaboration of the "Yatsushika Dance" passed down from the Date family and Nanyo's Ushi-oni! The autumn annual festival of Uwatsuhiko Shrine. The main highlight is the rare folk performing art "Yatsushika Dance," which originated in Sendai and can only be seen in a few places in Western Japan, including Uwajima.
Along with the sound of "Booyare" blown by children, the "Ushi-oni" also parades energetically through the city. The dedication of the Yatsushika Dance at Tensha-en Garden is also a must-see.

A magnificent parade featuring "Omifune/Neriguruma" (festival boats/floats) and "Kanoko (Nanatsushika Odori)" (seven deer dance) continues, just like an Edo period picture scroll.
It's a day packed with highlights, starting with the sumo dedication at dawn (U-no-koku) and featuring the rampaging "Yoshida no Abare Ushi-oni" (Yoshida's Wild Bull Demon) purifying the town.
