Saijo Festival (Main Event)
🏮 One of Japan's largest festivals by float count! Over 150 danjiri and mikoshi floats dance wildly. The collective term for the annual grand festivals of the city's four shrines (Kamo, Ishioka, Isono, Iizumi). The 'Kawa-iri' (River Entry) on the evening of October 16th, where about 80 danjiri floats lit with lanterns gather on the Kamo River at dusk, is a breathtaking sight to behold at least once in a lifetime.
During the festival period, the entire city is enveloped in excitement by the parade of danjiri floats.
